NDIS
What does an Exercise Physiologist do in NDIS?
An exercise physiologist is an expert in health and fitness and is qualified with a four year university degree. We specialise in developing exercise programs for people with NDIS plans including children and adults with disabilities. There are many reasons to exercise regularly. Above all it keeps you healthy and helps you to do the things you want to do.
A common barrier for those with disabilities is accessing physical activity opportunities, so at Fundamental Exercise Physiology we endeavor to give everyone access to exercise, for example in your home or community.
Funding for an exercise physiologist can come out of capacity building and can help you to achieve your NDIS goals. We provide all the equipment and can tailor sessions to any environment, for instance we often see participants in their own home but bring in weights and bands to help in the session.
What does an initial session look like?
In an initial session the aim is to get as much information to be able to design and tailor a program to suit every individual. We start with initial questions such as asking about your disability and how it affects you, what your physical activity history looks like and what are some of your goals. After that, we ask you to go through some simple assessments to see how you walk and move to set a baseline. Following this, we use this information to tailor specific goals to each individual that are linked to things you want to achieve.
